Art for Hope Digital Collection
About the Project
The Art for Hope program was launched by the Redevelopment Agency of Salt Lake City (RDA) in 2020 to uplift the community during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. At a time marked by uncertainty, isolation, and social unrest, the initiative invited 33 Utah artists to create 43 four-foot-square “message murals” that conveyed hope, unity, and resilience. Installed on RDA-owned properties in Downtown, Sugar House, and along North Temple, the artworks transformed construction fencing and blank walls into bright symbols of optimism and connection.
Designed as both a physical and virtual exhibition, Art for Hope not only supported local artists but also offered residents a safe, socially distanced way to engage with public art. Each piece reflected the diversity and creativity of Salt Lake City while reminding viewers that art can help communities heal and grow stronger together. Though the original installations were temporary, the artwork remains accessible online—and continues to stand as a testament to the enduring power of art in uncertain times.
